Several years before deciding to go to Seminary and after several prayerful discussions between Deb and I, we made a commitment that we were going to begin to tithe on our income to the congregation we belonged to in West Virginia. As we were growing in our faith, it became obvious that one of the things we were still holding back on was our financial support of the work of the Church at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. However, still being very new to this idea of trusting in the Lord to supply all our needs, I explained to our pastor, this was a trial just to see how it goes. As your pastor, I want you to love one another. In saying this to you, I am saying nothing different than what Jesus said to His little congregation assembled in the Upper Room on the night when He was betrayed. He had just demonstrated His love for them by washing their feet and that He now wants them to love one another likewise.

“He rose from the supper. He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist. Then He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him.” (John 13:4-5). (more…)
