The disciples made a seemingly innocent and casual remark about the magnificent stones and wonderful buildings that made up the temple complex in Jerusalem, to which Jesus felt obligated to knock the wind out of their sails. “Not one stone left on top of another.” Jesus is obviously not as impressed with the accomplishments of men as these men were.

He’s not so impressed by magnificent stones cut by human hands because His hands formed the mountains that those stones were cut from. The beautiful buildings that man has built are not so impressive to Him who made the men who built those buildings. Better to be impressed with the Creator than with the creation. All of our present confidence and trust, as well as all of our future hope and optimism is right when its’ based upon Jesus and His Word and wrong when its based on our accomplishments. One is true faith the other is idolatry. One endures forever, the other ends in ashes. “Heaven and earth will pass away,” He says, “but my word will never pass away.” (more…)

The Danish philosopher, Kierkegaard, once told a parable about a theater where a variety show was being performed. Each skit was more fantastic than the previous one. With each skit, the audience’s enjoyment increased and the applause grew louder. Suddenly the manager of the theatre came onto the stage. He announced that the theater was on fire and everyone needed to leave the theatre immediately. The audience however, thinks this to be part of the show and cheers loudly. The manager implores everyone to leave the burning building, and he is again applauded even more vigorously. At last he can do no more. The fire destroys the theatre and the fun-loving audience with it. And with that, Kierkegaard concludes, "I sometimes think, that our age will likewise, go down in fiery destruction to the applause of a crowded house of cheering spectators." (more…)

If someone were to approach you, because they happen to suspect that you might be one of those Christians who takes his faith seriously, and asked you what this Christian faith is about, what would you say? Is that a question that you’re prepared to give an answer to? Or, is that a question that you yourself would like to know the answer to because it’s something you’ve been wondering about as well? To all the saints in waiting, Jesus said, “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms… I am going to prepare a place for you. And if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me so that you may be where I am.” (John 14:2-3).

There are some things in life that are worth waiting for.
- Waiting for the Lord to take us to the Father’s house where a place has been prepared for us is worth waiting for.
- Waiting for the Lord to carry you in His arms over the threshold as His adorable bride is worth waiting for. - Waiting for the banquet to begin where a place at the table has been reserved for you is worth waiting for. (more…)
